Many of us would have fond memories of chocolate slice from childhood. It is a classic sweet with everyone having a version of their own. My version is of course a healthier option that most. Made with nuts, seeds, cacao and coconut oil it is nutrient dense, very chocolatey and great for keeping energy levels stable throughout the day.
As always you can vary the ingredients to suit your palette or whatever you have in the pantry. I simply added rough amounts of each ingredient and blended until it was thick and gooey and tasted great. The quantities given below are a rough guide and I encourage you to experiment and play with what suits you.
Enjoy! Would love to hear your feedback or all about your version of the classic chocolate slice.
1/2 cup sunflower seeds, raw
1/2 cup cashews, raw
1/3 cup cacao/cocoa
1/4 cup dates* or unprocessed honey (more if you want it a bit sweeter)
1/4 cup coconut oil
* Soak the dates in hot water for 10 minutes and drain before using
Simply place all ingredients in a food processor and blend to a smooth consistency.
For a crunchier slice blend for less time.
Spread mixture into a greased and grease proof paper lined dish.
Place in freezer.
After about 20 minutes remove and cut into squares, leaving it in the dish.
Return to freezer until set through.
Store in an airtight container in the freezer.
